The middle Curran among the Curran brothers is all set to begin his career for Zimbabwe. He is eligible to play for the Zimbabwe team because of his father Kevin Curran who was a Zimbabwe Born cricketer and represented Zimbabwe in 1983 and 1987 World Cup. Kevin made his ODI debut against Australia in the 1983 World Cup where he secured a crucial 6-wicket partnership of 70 runs. He could not play Test cricket for Zimbabwe as his country did not receive test status by that time. The time Zimbabwe received test status, Kevin Curran had already moved to England to Play County Cricket.
All the 3 Curran brothers grew up in Zimbabwe as their father moved back to Zimbabwe to coach the national team. But after the demise of Kevin Curran in 2012, these young Currans moved to England. Both Tom Curran and Sam Curran represented Surrey whereas Ben Curran moved to Northamptonshire to begin his County Career for the club his father once played for.
Although both Tom Curran and Sam Curran got a chance to represent their country in all three formats and were a part of World Cup winning Squad once each, Ben Curran wasn’t fortunate enough to play for the English national team. Therefore, Ben Curran is looking forward to carrying on the legacy of his late father Kevin Curran who is considered one of the greatest cricketers of Zimbabwe. Due to lack of opportunities available for him for the England side, now this 28 year old cricketer is eyeing to initiate his international career by playing for Zimbabwe.
In the last season of the Logan Cup of Zimbabwe, Ben scored 458 runs. While asked about his decision, Ben said that, Even he will be feeling pretty weird playing against his brothers. He also added in a sarcastic way, that he is worried what his mom will be thinking when she will see his sons play for different nations. England will be inviting Zimbabwe for a one off test in May 2025 where we can get to see Curran brothers play against each other. If Ben Curran gets selected for Zimbabwe side for the tests. Zimbabwe and England will be playing a bilateral series against each other after 2 long decades.
