The local Boy Ravichandran Ashwin scored his sixth test century on the day 1 of the first test. This is his first century against Bangladesh. Earlier the day, Ashwin scored his career fastest fifty in just 58 balls and later on converted the innings to his career fastest 100 with ease. As of today, after the strumps of Day 1, Ashwin is currently batting at a score of 102 in just 112 balls with the help of 10 fours and 2 sixes and at a brisk strike rate of 91.07 and will continue his innings on the Day 2. This is his second consecutive century on his homeground Chepauk, he also scored a century in 2021 in Chepauk when the Indian team last played a test match there.
Accompanying Ashwin, Jadeja has also proved to be the savior of the Indian batting as he has also scored unbeaten 86 of 117 balls. Both Jadeja and Ashwin have created a partnership of 195 runs which is the highest among this duo. Both Jadeja and Ashwin came to bat in the 42nd and 43rd over respectively, when the team lost 2 quick wickets of Yashaswi Jaiswal and KL Rahul within a span of 5 balls.
At that time India just scored 144 runs with 6 wickets down. On the pitch where a total of 300 runs were looking a difficult task for the Indian team, Jadeja and Ashwin rescued the team and has already led the team to a total of 339 runs and are still unbeaten. Jadeja is also just 14 runs away from his century and will be looking forward to completing his century Day 2.
The Indian team who was struggling to score even 200 runs earlier the day, will be eyeing on scoring at least 450 runs which will multiply the chances of the Indian team to win the match. However, on the other side, Bangladesh also need to reanalyse the situation and prepare their plans according to that because if Jadeja and Ashwin will continue to play for more than a session, Bangladesh will most likely ruin their chances of winning the match which was once in their hand.
Not just batting, India is also dependent on both of them for their bowling, especially in case the pitch tears out in the upcoming days.
