Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out from India tour of Sri Lanka due to an injury. The Indian team is set to face Sri Lanka in 3 T20Is and 3ODIs in an away series. Both the cricket boards have announced their squads, but the Lankan team now might need a new pacer as Chameera rules out from the white ball series due to an injury.
While Chameera’s injury is a problem for the Sri Lankan team, it’s a big relief for the Rohit Sharma. Rohit recently announced his retirement from the T20 format but the news of Chameera ruling out from ODIs as well is a big relief for him.
Chameera has a good record against Rohit in T20Is, 2017 was the last time they both faced each other in 50-over format but were constantly facing each other in T20s. In 9 innings they faced each other, Chameera 6 times has taken Rohit’s wicket and Rohit has scored just 32 runs against him in T20Is. Chameera has troubled Rohit on many occasions. Apart from Chameera there is no pacer in the Sri Lankan squad Rohit has struggled playing. Chameera has 55 wickets in T20Is. The only ODI in which Rohit faced Chameera, Rohit scored 48 runs in 44 balls, but this was in 2017 since then Rohit has struggled against Chameera in T20Is.
The replacement of Chameera is yet to be announced. However, Chameera has an infamous injury record where he missed the ODI World Cup in 2023, he missed the recent IPL where he was in the KKR squad and only played 2 matches in the T20I World Cup. Chameera played LPL before he was ruled out. The Sri Lankan bowling attack will now be tested against India and Mathisha Pathirana will now need a new bowling partner to lead the fast-bowling attack of Sri Lanka.
Asitha Fernando or Pramod Madushan are being considered to take Chameera’s place in the Sri Lankan Squad.
