Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has backed Team India as the favorites to win the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, predicting a thrilling final showdown between India and Australia. Clarke, who will be part of the commentary panel for the IPL 2025, shared his insights in an exclusive discussion ahead of the Trailblazers Conclave.
Rohit Sharma’s Future: To Retire or Continue?
When asked whether Rohit Sharma should retire if India wins the Champions Trophy, Clarke said that the decision should rest entirely with the Indian captain.
“It’s up to Rohit. Players who have served their country for a long time deserve to leave on their own terms. If he feels he has had enough, he has the option to retire. But if he still has the hunger, he is definitely in good enough form to continue playing,” Clarke explained.
Australia’s Resurgence in ICC Tournaments
Despite missing key bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins, Australia has impressed in the tournament. Clarke, however, is not surprised by their performance.
“I think our batting has a lot of experience. Our bowling lacks some experience due to injuries, but these players have been waiting for their opportunity. The team is good enough to make the final, and after the win against England, they will be even more confident,” he said.
Champions Trophy 2025: India vs. Australia Final on the Cards?
Predicting the outcome of the Champions Trophy, Clarke expects India and Australia to clash in the final, but he believes the Men in Blue will have the upper hand.
“I want Australia to win, but I think India will win the Champions Trophy. They are the number one team in the world right now. The final will be played in Dubai, where Indian conditions and their three quality spinners will play a big role. I predict an India vs. Australia final, with India winning by just one run!” Clarke predicted.
With the Champions Trophy 2025 gaining momentum, Clarke’s remarks add to the excitement surrounding India’s title hopes. Fans worldwide eagerly await the high-voltage clash that could see India lift yet another ICC trophy.
