India will face Sri Lanka in the final of Women’s Asia Cup 2024 on 28th July. In the semi-final, India defeated Bangladesh by 10 wickets and SL defeated Pakistan by 3 wickets.

This is India’s 9th consecutive Women’s Asia Cup final. Harmanpreet Kaur led Indian team has been exceptionally good throughout the tournament.

The Indian team in the semi- final played an inning to remember, both with the bat and the ball. Indian bowler Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav’s magic with the ball didn’t allow Bangladesh’s batters to cross the 80 runs mark, Renuka and Radha took 3 wickets followed by Smriti Mandhana’s knock of 55* runs. Bangladesh only managed to score 80 runs and India chased down that target in the 11th over.

Prior to that Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 3 wickets in another semi-final. Pakistan while batting first scored 141 runs with loss of 4 wickets, SL team chased down that target in the 20th over, while the bowling of SL was not up to the mark but while batting the SL captain Chamari Athapaththu took the charge and scored 63 runs.

India throughout the tournament  

The defending champions India Women faced arch-rival Pakistan in their first match of the Women’s Asia Cup where India won by 7 wickets, Pakistan got all out on 108 runs and India chased down that target in 15 overs. In their 2nd match with UAE India scored a massive total of 201 runs while batting first, Richa Ghosh played with a strike rate of 220 and scored 64 runs in 29 balls followed by the India women captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s 64 run knock. UAE only managed to score 123 runs. In their third game with Nepal Women, India Women scored 178 runs while batting first and stopped Nepal at 96 and won the match by 82 runs.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s words        

Harmanpreet Kaur in the post-match presentation said that the Indian bowlers did a great job, whatever they spoke about in the team meeting they did the same, further she said that she is proud of the way they are bowling. They are under a lot of pressure because they have been dominating Asian cricket, they want to get out there and express themselves, they prepare themselves hard in the nets, Harmanpreet added.
