Indian right-arm fast bowler Akashdeep Singh is once again earning a lot of admiration by his fellow teammates and Indian cricket fans for his blazing performance on day 2 of the India vs. Bangladesh Test match at Chepauk.
Akashdeep took 2 wickets in 5 overs by giving 19 runs. He bagged the wickets of the opener Zakir Hasan and Mominul, who came to bat at No. 4.
The journey of Akashdeep has not been easy. He was born in Sasaram district of Bihar. From his childhood, he didn’t got enough support from his parents to continue his career in cricket. His father forced him to appear in the government exams but he was more focused on pursuing his career in cricket. After the suspension of the Bihar Cricket Association, Akashdeep moved to Durgapur, West Bengal for more cricket opportunities , by lying to his family that he was there to search for a job.
But later on, after the sudden demise of his father due to a stroke, and later on, the death of his elder brother within two months of his father’s death, led to a pause in his cricket career as he was the only earning person left in the family. But after 3 years, he again made his comeback in the game and got selected for the Bengal U-23 team.
In 2022, Akashdeep got picked up by RCB in the IPL, and he got the fortune to make his debut in the league in the same year. In the year 2023, he got a callup for the Indian ODI squad against South Africa as a replacement of Deepak Chahar, but did not play any match there. In February 2024, Akashdeep got selected for the Indian test team for the last 3 matches against England. He finally made his international debut in the fourth Test match against England, where he solely rattled the batting order of England by dismissing Zack Crawley, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope in the first session.
His impressive performance in that series led the selectors to pick him up for the Bangladesh Test series, where he is again prospering well. Alongside Akashdeep, both Siraj and Jadeja also picked up 2 wickets each, whereas Bumrah took 4 wickets.
