The Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya took 9 wickets against New Zealand at Galle including a fifer in the second innings.
The extra bounce in his deliveries gave him an extra edge over other bowlers. Some of the bowls got a bit skiddy after touching the ground whereas some of them got sticky to the surface making the opponent team inefficient to play those deliveries.
In the first innings Prabath clinched 4 wickets. Firstly, he bagged the wicket of the opener Tom Latham, who was looking in good form. Prabath got him out with the help of extra bounce while he was attempting to sweep. Afterwards, he got Tom Blundell out through a slip catch as the ball touched his gloves while he was attempting a reverse sweep. He also got Wicket of Santner by bowling a length ball and getting it edged to the wicketkeeper. His last wicket of the innings was the wicket of the skipper Tim Southee by getting him bowled through a skiddy ball hitting the stumps. His crucial 4 wickets helped Sri Lanka limit the score of NZ to 340.
In their second inning when they had only 274 runs to defend. He initially got Williamson stumped through a delivery that first dipped and then bounced unexpectedly. Whereas he outplayed Tom Blundell in the second inning too. Blundell, who lost his wicket in the first innings while attempting a reverse sweep, again tried a reverse sweep and got bowled out by Prabath. He afterwards got Philips edged to the wicketkeeper at just a score of 4. His next hunt was the lone warrior of the innings, Rachin Ravindra, who scored 92. In the next over, after getting Rachin’s wicket, he packed the innings of NZ by picking up the wicket of William O’Rourke, which led his team to a 63-run win against NZ. Prabath got the player of the match award for his performance.
