Wriddhiman Saha interview: Former India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, in an exclusive interview with India News, hailed the Bengal Pro T20 League (BPL) as a crucial platform for nurturing grassroots cricket in the state. Serving as the ambassador of the league, Saha emphasized the importance of consistent domestic tournaments to discover and promote hidden talent.

“This tournament happens in almost every state. Often, players from the state don’t get enough opportunities. But leagues like the BPL allow them to showcase their skills and get noticed at the state level,” said Saha.

“BPL is a Platform for the Future”

Saha believes that the Bengal Pro T20 League bridges the gap between talent and opportunity. He stated that players who perform well in the league often receive recognition and a chance to represent Bengal at higher levels.

“It’s a step-by-step process. If a platform like this continues uninterrupted, it can change many careers,” he added.

When asked about the standout performers in the current season, Saha was quick to praise several players but avoided naming a single “star.”

“There are good players in every team. Anustubh, our captain, is outstanding. Sudeep played well last year, and Suraj is also doing well. But a team is made up of 11 players—it’s never about one individual.”

India’s England Tour: “Challenge Without Rohit & Virat”

Saha also shared his thoughts on India’s upcoming tour of England, where swing and seam conditions often challenge subcontinental batsmen.

“It’s a concern that Virat and Rohit aren’t part of the squad. Even Ashwin had missed the previous series. In such a scenario, new or relatively inexperienced players may get a debut or major role,” he noted.

However, he expressed confidence in the team’s young guns, especially Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, who will have key roles to play.

“Shubman will be there, and Pant has already played some matches. He’ll need to take more responsibility now. If our batting holds and bowling performs, we can win the series.”

“Shubman Gill Has the Temperament to Lead”

When asked about Shubman Gill being seen as the leader of a new era in Indian cricket, Saha was optimistic.

“His temperament is very good. He has been a captain in IPL for two seasons and also in domestic cricket. He communicates well with players, bonds with the team, and has already taken them to the finals,” Saha said.

He believes Gill’s leadership, if translated into the national setup, will lift the team’s morale and unity.

“If he delivers in Team India the same way, it’ll encourage the whole squad. The energy he brings can be crucial for the team.”

“Don’t Let the League Stop Midway”

In his concluding remarks, Saha made a strong appeal for the continuity of the Bengal Pro T20 League.

“In many states, tournaments start and then stop midway. I hope this doesn’t happen in Bengal. This league must go on so players can nurture their skills and progress in their careers.”

Wriddhiman Saha’s words carry the weight of experience and a clear vision for cricket’s grassroots development. His support for the Bengal Pro T20 League not only highlights the tournament’s relevance but also reinforces the need for sustainable platforms to identify and elevate regional talent.
