Bangladesh series is not a dress-rehearsal for Border-Gavaskar Trophy : Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma led Indian team is all set to face Bangladesh in the two-match test series against Bangladesh starting from 19 September onwards. The Indian team will be seen in action in red-ball cricket after 6 long months. The last time they played a test match against England in March. Both teams have arrived Chennai ahead of the series, the skipper answered a number of questions asked to him in the press conference today.

While asked about the vision of the team for the series, Rohit clarified that they are not looking at this series as a practice series. They are looking for Border Gavaskar Trophy.  While adding on to that, he said that each and every match they play is equally crucial as there are a lot of things on Stake. Rohit said that the forthcoming series is not a ‘dress rehearsal’ for the Indian team. The team is eying on starting the series on high note as each and every match is important for the WTC rankings.

Rohit was also asked about how the team will adapt to the change in the coaching staff, as most of the coaching staff such as Gautam Gambhir, Abhishek Nair and Morne Morkel have just started their coaching stint for the Indian team. In answer to the question, Rohit replied that he knows both Abhishek and Gautam since a long ago. He said that every coaching staff works on a different perspective and mindset. He added that he is aware of the coaching style of both, which will make it easy to adapt to the changes. While talking about Morne Morkel, Rohit said that he has also played against Morkel which makes him aware of his mindset.

Rohit was also asked about the workload management of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj. He answered the question by saying that he also wants both of them to play all the matches but it will depend all on the workload of the bowlers. Rohit said that the team will consult physios regarding the workload management of the bowlers and try to give them rest accordingly.

Rohit also talked about youngsters like Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz khan and Yashaswi Jaiswal. He said that despite of a short age, all of them acquire all the skills to perform well at this level and hopefully contribute in whatever way possible in the upcoming Test series
