Mithali emphasized how instrumental Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma have been for Delhi Capitals in the TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL). She noted, “Every time Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma put together a 50-plus partnership, the team’s winning percentage rises significantly. Today, while chasing a target of 124, Shafali took a more measured approach initially, which is unlike her usual attacking style. However, once she found her rhythm and Meg Lanning joined in, it was a delight to watch them score freely from both ends. It was a very convincing win for Delhi Capitals.”
Reliance on Lanning & Verma for a Strong Start
Mithali further analyzed their consistency, stating that whenever the duo fails to build a partnership, Delhi Capitals often struggle. “As batters, they complement each other perfectly. Over all three seasons, whenever they haven’t managed to build a solid opening stand, the middle order has been exposed. But when they do, the team cruises to victory.”
