Our country lost the “Titan” Ratan Tata at the age of 86. He took his
last breath on Wednesday. Being one of the most idolized person of the
country Ratan Tata was known for his support in various aspects of the
country.
Ratan Tata, has played a major role in the success of a number of
industries, communities, people, and sports too. There are also a
number of cricketers who thank Ratan Tata for unwavering support of
their careers. The companies under the Tata group have provided
numerous backing and opportunities to once struggling cricketers who
are considered greats now.
The Tata motors of the Tata group provided support to the former
veteran Farokh engineer. Others such players career such as Mohinder
Amarnath, Sanjay Manjrekar, Robin Uthappa, and Mohinder Amarnath, also
got backed by Air India Group, which is also a part of Tata. Even
current players such as Shardul Thakur and Jayant Yadav are also
associated with Tata Group, which supports them in many aspects.
But the Tata’s support does not just stop with the players. The Tata
group has also supported a number of leagues by sponsoring them in
their early and difficult times. Tata sponsored the Titan Cup in 1996,
but later on the sponsorship got discontinued due to a match fixing
scandal. Alongside, the Tata group is also the main sponsor of the IPL
and associated with the league to a 4-year contract.
But the indulgent nature of Tata is not just limited to men’s
cricket, the Tata group is also giving enough support for women’s
cricket as they are also the head sponsors of BCCI’s Women’s Premier
League.
The Tata group has provided various opprtunities to number of
cricketers without any indulgence in their sporting schedules.
Therefore, Ratan Tata has played a major role in shaping the structure
of Indian cricket. The cricket fraternity will always be thankful to
him for his unwavering support in the sport.
