India para athletes aiming for 15 medals in World Para Athletics

New Delhi : The Indian para athletics team was recently selected after the final trials in Bengaluru in end March. A team of thirty athletes achieved the minimum qualification standard set by the ministry of sports. A mix of established stars were joined by some inspiring newcomers who performed creditably at the final trials in Bengaluru.  Leading the charge will be India’s sensational javelin thrower Sumit Antil who will be looking to best his own world record in the F   category. The other reigning world record holder Sundar Singh gurjar was below his best due to an injury but the bright spot in his category was ajeet singh and who finished one two in the event pushing Sundar Singh gurjar to third place. All three are likely to perform a clean sweep in their category at kobe. High jumpers Praveen Kumar and nishad continued with their fine form and look set to add to their existing set of medals at kobe. Varun bhati an Olympic medalist from 2016 also showed good form in his return from injury. Also continuing in good form was Paralympic silver medal discus thrower yogesh kathuniya. He will be aiming for a gold at the kobe world championship

In the women’s events simran  continued to improve on her existing performance by winning both the 100 and 200 m sprint events. Simran had won 2 silver medals at the Asian Games. She will be aiming for her first medal at the world stage. These are the medal hopes.
