Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shahrukh Khan was reportedly involved in a heated argument with the Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia in the meeting of BCCI with IPL team owners on Wednesday.
In the meeting held by the BCCI with all the franchise owners ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the topic of discussion was retention when Shah Rukh Khan and Ness Wadia got into an argument. Shah Rukh Khan was in favor of more retention for IPL mega auction and Wadia was against it.
The mega auction will take place before the start of IPL 2025 and this meeting was held to discuss a few topics like, impact player rule, salary cap, retention and RTM card, with the team owners. The number of retentions became a continuous topic in the meeting where KKR, CSK, SRH, MI and RR wanted a greater number of retentions for auctions and RCB, PBKS, DC, LSG were against it, GT is uncertain on the retentions.
Kavya Maran the owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad was completely against the mega auction, she said that it takes a lot of time to build a squad, it takes a bit more time and investment for the younger players to mature. It has taken Abhishek Sharma three years to become a consistent performer, there are many such examples in other teams too.
However, Parth Jindal from Delhi Capitals said that he was surprised that there was a debate over the continuation of the big auction in the first place, he is personally in favor of it, he added. Jindal also said that there was a debate for the impact player rule with differing views from the franchises, DC stands against it, the impact player rule is detrimental to the growth of the all-rounders.
The bigger question regarding the IPL is, will MS Dhoni play the IPL next year?
Earlier it was reported that the former star Indian cricketer and ex Chennai Super Kings captain has talked with CSK officials about his future with the franchise and has informed them that he will play the 18th edition of IPL only if BCCI gives 5 or 6 retentions ahead of the mega auction.
