In the recent Men’s T20I batting rankings Yashasvi Jaiswal has jumped to the 4th position while Suryakumar Yadav stays at 2 and Travis Head remains at 1st position.
Suryakumar Yadav has stayed at 2nd despite his good performances in recent times. His player rating is 805, while Travis Head has a player rating of 844. The Australian batter Travis Head has been at the top for quite some time and Suryakumar is near to dethrone in the upcoming times.
If we talk about Head and Surya’s stats in T20I format then Surya is far ahead of Travis, where Surya has played 71 matches and Travis has played 31 matches. In 68 innings Surya has scored 2432 runs with an average of 42.66 and strike rate of 168.65, his highest score being 117 runs. On the other hand, Travis has scored 911 runs in 32 innings with an average of 32.53 and strike rate of 150.08. His highest score was 91 runs. Surya has 4 centuries and 20 half centuries to his name in the format while Travis has 3 half centuries.
Suryakumar Yadav may have much better stats then Travis Head, but Travis is currently no.1 ranked T20I batsmen. So why is Travis ahead of Surya despite having not so good numbers as compared to Surya?
The ICC batting rankings are based on the recent performances of players, the opponents against whom they scored runs and the importance of the match in which they scored. Travis’s recent performance is the reason why he is at the top, his contribution for the Australian team in the important matches is one of the reasons.
Travis Head was one of the highest run scorers of the T20I WC. He scored 255 runs with an average of 42.50, he scored 76 runs against India in the run chase.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 199 runs in 8 innings in the T20 WC and 2 half centuries, which included a half century against USA.
Travis has been consistently performing well in T20Is and against some big teams in important matches, which is why his ranking is higher than Suryakumar Yadav. Surya has not been a consistent performer and has scored big against some weak teams in the recent times.
Surya needs to score some big runs against tough teams to climb to the first spot.
