Indian former cricketer, Sanjay Manjarekar has made a bold statement against BCCI,Sanjay Manjrekar said that if Rohit and Virat Kohli would have played Duleep trophy, it would have helped them in the first test against Bangladesh in Chennai.
Sanjay Manjrekar accused the BCCI of giving special treatment to players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma just because of their status, as the BCCI did not push both of them to participate in domestic cricket.
According to Manjrekar, the Duleep trophy would have given them a little bit of practice time ahead of the Bangladesh Test series. However, he still believes that both of them will contribute through their batting in the second Test match in Kanpur. This statement was made after the poor performance of both of them in the first test against Bangladesh. Virat could only score 21 runs in the match whereas the Virat Kohli could only score 11 runs.
The BCCI urged a number of Indian players to participate in the Duleep trophy in order to prepare for the Bangladesh series. But the BCCI did not make any compulsion for Virat and Rohit to participate in such a tournament. The workload management is also not an issue for both of them as they have already announced their T20I retirement after the World Cup 2024 win in June.
Before the start of this test series, Rohit was last seen in action in red-ball cricket in March 2024 in the home series against England whereas Virat Kohli missed out the 5 match-test series against England in the month of February-March, which also reduced his game-time in the red-ball cricket this year whereas they were last seen in action in international cricket on August 7, in the last ODI against Sri Lanka. After that series, there was a huge gap of 42 days which was enough for them to take their rest as well as participate in at least a couple of Duleep Trophy matches. The Indian team will be expecting a better performance from them, for which they are known for, in the second Test match.
