The Indian team is on a streak of breaking records this year. In the second test match of the two match test series in Kanpur, the team again broke a number of records. After ending the first innings of Bangladesh at a score of 233, the openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma provided a brilliant start to the innings. The duo registered a new record of fastest 50 runs in men’s Test cricket. This was done with the help of skipper Rohit’s contribution of 19 from 6 balls and Yashasvi 30 from 13 balls.
In the first over, Yashavi struck a hat-trick of fours clarifying his intent, followed by Rohit, who scored two sixes in his first two balls of the innings, which made him the third Indian and fourth overall player to hit two sixes in the first two balls of the innings. They broke the record of England, who had the record of achieving a total of 50 runs in just 26 balls, in the same year at Trent Bridge. The 55 run partnership of this duo came in just 23 balls.
But despite losing the wicket of the skipper at 55, the team didn’t dip and broke another record. The duo of Yashasvi and Shubman continued to score at a brisk strike rate and led their team to the fastest 100 too in Test cricket. The team reached a total of 100 in 10.1 overs, breaking their own old world record of reaching 100 runs in 12.2 overs against the West Indies in July 2023.
Later the day, in the same innings, the Indian registered the records of fastew 150, 200, and 250 runs too, which is really majestic. The Indian team has hit 90 sixes in 8 test matches this year, which is the highest number of sixes by a team in a calendar year in Test cricket.
Alongside, Virat Kohli also bounced back in the first inning for Team India, as he scored 47 runs in just 35 balls. The team declared the innings at a total of 285 runs, having a lead of 52 runs in hand and hoping to win the match by bowling out as soon as possible. The rain played as a huddle in the match since days 2 and 3 got washed out due to rain, forcing the Indian team to score runs fast in order to get a result in the match.
